"Lack of compassion"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Gynaecology Services

(as a parent/guardian),

Went in with my daughter to the ward where she was admitted through GMed’s for a gynaecological issue. Staff were very rude and did not speak to us on arrival, simply just pointed us to a room. Nurses were also rude and told me to leave, at this point my daughter was in tears as she felt alone and scared. The nurse covering my daughters room showed no compassion whatsoever to the fact that she was anxious. HCSW was very friendly and greeted us with a smile.

Dear Davidm2401

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback from your daughters recent inpatient stay in ward 309. I am really sorry to hear that your experience fell below our expected level of care.

This would have been a very anxious time for both you and your daughter and I apologise for the lack of compassion you experienced from the nursing team. I will certainly feed back your comments to the staff in 309, and will have further discussion with the Senior Charge Nurse on how we improve conduct in the clinical environment to reduce the possibility of a further negative experience for our patients.

Apologies again and I wish your daughter well in her recovery.

Kind regards

Alice Ritchie
