"Gastro Endoscopy - Great Team"

About: University Hospital Ayr / Gastroenterology

(as a service user),

Credit where credits due, Dr Nur and the two Endoscopy Nurses Christine and Michelle are fantastic at what they do. I never caught any of the names of the recovery room staff but also, great job!

I was referred up to the hospital by my GP after suffering with reflux, stomach pain and swallowing issues. Dr Nur and his team were very reassuring and explained/discussed things very thoroughly both during the procedure and after. Both nurses in the team were also fantastic, you feel quite vulnerable and their words of encouragement and hand holding make the world of difference mentally. I opted to have the procedure without sedation as it means a quicker recovery time and I could drive home on my own. I can see why some people opt for sedation as the procedure can be slightly uncomfortable at times but is completely painless, throat spray that is provided is enough to get you adjusted for the procedure. Also the sedation can kind of put you out of it for asking questions and remembering what the doctor is saying to you during and post procedure. They do document everything though and everything gets sent back to your GP with you CC'd in, but I prefer to have a discussion vs reading notes in medical text.

Anyone reading this, try it without sedation first of all would be my advice. It's nowhere near as "bad" as you think it's going to be. Also if they decide to biopsy anything, don't worry it's pain free and I can guarantee living with indigestion is a million times worse.

No complaints at all from me and I'm over the moon to have some answers to the problems I've been having, which wouldn't have been possible without it!

Great work team, keep it up. You're a credit to your profession.
