"Fantastic care, but lack of communication at times"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Accident & Emergency Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Acute Receiving Unit (Ward 2c) Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Renal (Ward 3C)

(as a parent/guardian),

On Saturday afternoon we attended a&e with our daughter. She had a really bad chest infection, she was in a lot of pain and was having some problems with her breathing. She was admitted for IV antibiotics and we stayed in hospital for 2 nights.

Our care in A&E was fantastic, every doctor and nurse was wonderful and reassuring and took the time to talk to our daughter and not just me! Can I say that Niamh a student nurse was amazing - so reassuring and I’m sure she will make a fantastic nurse!

We were taken to ward 2C, where again I couldn’t fault the care and then onto ward 3C. I am really grateful to all of the staff for their care and attention but in particular Dr Majid, she explained everything so clearly to us and went over and above to find out what was happening with our daughter's care and discharge - thank you so so much!

The only thing that was frustrating was at times the lack of communication. There was a lot of time where we didn’t know if she was staying or going home and our questions couldn’t be answered. Which was really difficult when you have a 5 year old really upset and distressed. If you say you’re going to come back and talk to parents please please try and do that. I completely understand that everyone is rushed off their feet but it does go a long way.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback on your experience while visiting RHC. I am sorry to hear that your daughter was unwell and required to stay with us for a couple of nights, this must have been a very worrying time for you. I am pleased to hear that you felt the care you received in both A&E and the wards you visited was fantastic, and I will pass on your kind words to the student nurse and Dr you have mentioned.

I can only apologise that you felt communication at times needed to be improved, we will ensure that this is highlighted to all teams and review what we can do to improve on this in the future. Your feedback is very important to us and helps to work towards improving everyone's experience.

I hope your daughter is continuing to recover well at home.

Best Wishes,

Catriona Riddell

Lead Nurse
