My dad went to a&e with chest pain. On arrival the nurse at the door didn’t want to let him in to be seen. Another nurse did and he got an ecg. They said it was a soft tissue injury. At this stage he was presenting with chest pain.
Less that 24 hours later he was back at a&e with worsening chest pain . Told to queue up and at this point was having a heart attack . Sent to the Golden jubilee for a stent. Discharged on the Saturday with red swollen feet .given gout pills.
Symptoms worsened so called the ward at GJ. Told to elevate feet. By Monday he couldn’t walk called gp and no one called back. By Monday night he was immobile Nhs 24 out hours gp came and diagnosed cellulitis. Medicine still not working. Tuesday called gp again and ANP nurse came and called ambulance. Take to the iau unit . Put in a corridor for an hour then in a cubicle. No doctor seen him for hours . He never got offered a drink or assistance to a toilet. Left for hours with no testing. No one seemed to care he had a heart attack the week before with a thrombosis. Eventually put in ward 8d at 10pm 8 hours after admission. We spoke to the nurses and concerned how no nurse seems to look at the bigger picture. Only bothered about his gout.
Next day we visited dad was still bed ridden. He needed to go to the toilet as no one has brought him a urine bottle. We had to lift him onto a chair and push to the toilet. Staff seemed not to care. They wanted to discharge him feet still bright red with the gout and not weight bearing. Eventually the nurse agreed to keep him in.
Another nurse came to give him medicine. We asked which pill it was . Her answer I don’t know. My dads on a cocktail of medicine so we need to keep track . No patient care in ward 8. All nurses round the nursing station . Didn’t see a senior charge nurse ever as we wanted to make a complaint about lack of patient care. The hospital should be investigated as they missed diagnosed his heart attack the day before. They have a duty of care and it’s seemed non existent from doctors to nurses.
