"Migraine management with Erenumab"

About: Stonehouse Hospital / General Medicine

(as the patient),

Having been prescribed Erenumab for chronic migraines and seeing a massive improvement in my migraines and quality of life, having considerably less than 15 headaches a month. Why then do the guidelines state that if you go below 15 headaches a month you must stop the medication? Having this enforced stoppage bought about a return of migraines with a vengeance.

These guidelines to not make any sense. Why withdraw a medication that is very obviously working well and improving my wellbeing and quality of life? Now I am back to square one dealing with chronic migraines and having to take time off work, and not being able to live my best life.  I am now suffering from depression and anxiety due to the effects of these debilitating migraines.  So now I’ve been off the Erenumab and back to having more than 15 migraines a month I can be restarted on it. Absolutely pathetic! Obviously whoever makes these decisions is not a migraine sufferer, nor do they show any understanding of what it’s like to suffer them! This situation is now costing the NHS more to deal with secondary illnesses. Not to mention the economic impact through lost work days.

DearWestie02

Thank you for getting in touch. I am sorry to hear a recent change in your prescriptions have led to you experiencing further migraines. guidelines are put in place to support clinicians and patients and are related to safety and governance of services.

I feel the best way forward is for you to receive a further appointment with the relevant clinician whereby your individual needs can be re-assessed.

As we are unable to share personal details on Care Opinion can I ask that you get in touch with Anne, our Operational Admin Manager on 01355 584988 and she will take some details and arrange follow up via the appropriate secretary.

Many Thanks

Angela
