"Employment support"

About: Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health NHS Leeds CCG

(as a service user),

I have been reading the CCG Executive summary.  On page 31 regarding employment support services it says that the Mindwell website has lots of useful information. I couldn't find anything about employment support on there.

It shouldn't be up to a service user to look for a needle in a haystack regarding accommodation or employment support. These are key factors in mental health. They should be discussed from day one contact with services,  goals set and discussed frequently along the journey.

I was disappointed with the executive summary on this point. I felt the use of third sector services created a break in the link from the service user to help with finding and keeping work.  We don't need the referral to be more efficient, we want the help to be useful.

Thank you for sharing your comments regarding the CCG’s involvement report on enhancing community mental health services, which are extremely helpful. Although the Leeds Mindwell site does include resources and information on employment, a key finding from the involvement exercise was that more could be done to make it easier to help people find information about getting support with employment. We will look at taking forward ways to improve this, including improving accessibility to information about employment on the Mindwell website.

In addition, as part of current Community Mental Health Service improvement work we are also looking at improving support for people with mental health issues to access employment support, by ensuring that this is discussed with people at the start of their treatment to identify their goals and provide help to work towards these, and that this is regularly reviewed with them.

If you would like to discuss this further please contact the Patient Experience Team by emailing leedsccg.patientexperience@nhs.net
