"An amazing team at Lagan Valley Hospital"

I took severe abdominal pain on a weekend and on the Tuesday decided to use the call before you go service in LVH. I got an appointment and was seen by an amazing doctor who listened and was keen to solve my issue. His compassion was boundless as he saw me deteriorate in waiting room and brought me for pain relief. I was transferred to ward 1B after lots of to and fro on capacity and magic by Mary (patient flow) to the friendliest ward and most compassionate team of staff I have ever met from the really hardworking cleaning staff to the reg and consultant staff. However the Nursing team of HCA and RN were so good, kind, patient, humane and altogether fab. I can’t praise them enough. The International Nurses were so happy and chatty and had all so much nursing experience- they blew me away.

During my time on the ward it was not about hospital Routine in the morning or about having to get things done because that’s the way they are always done. They looked at me and my IV schedule and disrupted sleep and were kind in the morning. They laughed with me and chatted with me on the tough days but I felt they were supporting me and caring for me as an individual rather than a name or number. 

Facilities in LVH are not adequate for today’s needs and my room was freezing so day after day they called until there was resolution. I didn’t have access to a shower and they made it happen, I couldn’t eat off the menu and they made me porridge or toast or tea.

LVH has been by far the best example and embodiment of HSC values that I have witnessed and I want to thank the whole team- Alex and Rebekah and the nurses Rachel, Lynsey, Tamly, Aji, Sonia, Geena, Sandra, and the others who I can’t remember and the HCA Jonny, Derrick and the many more who were amazing. I also have to thank the locum Doc Jonny from ED, ASA the Reg (who was amazing) , Dr Harding and the endoscopy suite at LVH for all they did. LVH is somewhere to be proud of - an amazing team
