"About the Royal Victoria Hospital"

About: Victoria Infirmary / Accident & Emergency

(as a relative),

It was a weekend – a Saturday night. My 92 y/o mother broke her arm. We were told that they had no beds and they couldn’t keep her. After an incredibly long wait she was seen, but as they couldn’t keep her in, we had to take her home with a broken arm. Only to have to return at 8am on the following Monday – leaving her in pain for 2 days!

They really need more beds. It’s not acceptable to allow a 93 year old woman to go home alone to sit in pain for 2 days.

Also, the ramps are a big problem. It was dark, and they aren’t lit, and the ramps are so steep that it’s very hard to control a wheelchair on them. Old people couldn’t possibly get up them. This needs to be fixed urgently!

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to provide your feedback.

I am sorry that this posting was not acknowledged at the time, we had a break in our use of Patient Opinion, but we have now resumed doing so, and I thought it was still important to acknowledge your posting.

You raised a number of issues that are of concern and I have passed your comments on to the manager responsible for these services to share your experience with local staff.

Paul
