"Good support at home"

About: Adult Mental Health Crisis Services / Crisis Team City Highbury Hospital

(as a service user),

So, I was first admitted to a PQ ward then transferred to Mansfield  mental health hospital, Bassetlaw, 7 years previously. After this I was transferred to Highbury Hospital in which the care I received was very good. They choose not to use restraint unless  required and I was not restrained at all. Since 2014 I have had 5 psychotic episodes and having gone down the private care route and from my experience Highbury is the better route to go down.

My most current episode was dealt with purely at home and the care I received was extremely good. I managed to stay at home with mood stabilisers and anti-psychotic drugs provided by the Highbury Crisis team.

My only complaint was the care staff do not get passed on enough information while administering care. They also need to let carers know what support is available (eg mum and dad) so that they can access the help needed during a very difficult time.

It’s great to hear that you have felt well looked after, at Highbury and in the community. Helping you get better at home without an admission is far preferable, if this is possible. We’re really glad this has worked this time around.

You make a very good point about carers. We are trying to do better at this, and we have recently appointed a dedicated Carers’ Peer Support Worker in the Crisis Team. This has raised the profile of the issue considerably, but it is something we need to keep pushing forward with. Thank you for your very useful feedback about this.

We wish you well for your continued recovery, and are very happy to have been of service.

Best Wishes,

Dear Scorpiuswq47

Thank you for taking the time to post about your recent experience with the City CRHT, I am pleased you were able to recover from your recent illness at home with support.

I note your concerns about information passed on to carers, we are working towards having a Peer Support worker in the City CRHT team who will focus purely on carers. They will concentrate on supporting carers and making sure they have appropriate information and sign post them to relevant support agents in the community.

Again, thanks for posting, it helps the team to reflect on the services we offer and look at making improvements.

I wish you well with your continued recovery.

Kind regards

Alison Harrison
