"Poor treatment"

About: John Radcliffe Hospital / Accident and emergency John Radcliffe Hospital / General medicine

(as the patient),

After sudden onset of rigors lasting over an hour and lips turning blue I went to Witney Community Hospital as it was closest to where I was staying (overnight trip from Liverpool). Waited 2 hours for Doctor on call to assess me. He who confirmed I had fever and should go for further tests. He contacted the medical team so that i would be treated quickly upon arrival and I was given the letter to confirm contact and initial assessment.

Arriving in A&E no one was aware of my arrival and I was put in A&E. Arrived around 2200. Asked for food and water in A&E as hadn't eaten since 1500 that day and had been in NHS care from 1700. Was given a glass of water. Was triaged at 0200. Only then was I offered food (a sandwich and apple). Observations recorded, COVID & flu test and bloods taken, Sat back in A&E waiting area until 0500 when a Doctor examined me and couldn't confirm infection type and was asked to wait the night in A&E waiting area until a consultant examined me in the morning. This never happened.

Was sent for x-ray around 0630. Was moved to AAU around 1000. No food or drink offered entire time here. Consultant checked over me around 1130 and said he would have to wait for bloods. Went back to seating area where catering staff offered me another sandwich. Nurse in AAU wanted to take more bloods and tried running the same test as had been carried out in A&E that morning. I refused as they had already been done and that the consultant was awaiting the earlier results so didn't see point in doing the exact same test again. Throughout this entire time there was no communication with myself and no one told me what was happening. I was moved about and not once asked if I had eaten or felt OK.

Nurse contacted doctor again upon my request and Jnr Doctor came to discharge. No flu, COVID or urine infection. Told it was probably viral and that if I felt worse was to go back to hospital. No discharge letter given. No directions out of hospital given. I felt no one cared about how I felt the entire time and the lack of coherent communication the whole time was dreadful. I spent almost 21 hours in NHS services after having episodes of rigors and thought the care provided was very poor at best.

Upon returning to Liverpool it has been 10 days and discharge letter still hasn't been received by my GP so no further tests can be done. The GP services did receive a A&E admittance letter which said I had an ECG and was diagnosed with a chest infection - both these things are incorrect.
