"Overall my stay was OK"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Accident & Emergency Royal Alexandra Hospital / General Medicine (wards 8, 10, 11, 14, 18 & 27)

(as the patient),

I was admitted to MAU after a long wait in A&E the stay itself was okay, but a lot could have been better. The patients in the ward were lovely and friendly and to be honest made my stay bearable and less frightening.

Most of the staff were nice and helpful but some could have been a little better especially when there is no visiting so I was even more vulnerable and scared than normal,I know they are extremely busy and rushed of their feet and do a good job, but I think they should also remember to show some kindness and empathy towards their patients as I think sometimes they tend to forget. Over all my stay was okay but I was glad to get home.

I would like to give a big thank you to one nurse who was looking after me who was absolutely fantastic and so kind and caring. Nothing was any bother,  really went out their way to help me and I can’t thank them enough. Also there was another nurse who was brilliant as well, couldn’t do enough for me went out his way to help no matter how busy he was and his manners were impeccable such a lovely kind person . I would also like to thank the bank nurse who was very kind, found me sitting on the chair crying, helped me and listened to me. That small bit of kindness made such a difference.

A thank you to everyone who helped.

Some of the other patients expressed that they weren’t happy either with some things either, so I was not the only one. It’s a great shame as it is a nice ward.

Thank you Bubbly12

Having responsibility for both A&E and MAU, it gives me enormous pride to receive your overall acknowledgment of thanks. The restricted visiting in place does indeed add to the anxiety of being in hospital and I'm glad there was recognition of the positive team members (as well as the patients) during your admission.

Being busy is never an excuse for forgetting to exercise empathy and kindness.

You kind words as well as constructive comments will be shared with my immediate teams to allow everyone to read and reflect upon what you have highlighted. This will be displayed within our staff base in MAU.

Thank you once again for taking the time to offer your comments via Care Opinion.

Should you wish to further any comments, then I am happy to be contacted by email on Gerry.mclaughlin@ggc.scot.nhs.uk to arrange a suitable time to do so.

Best wishes

Gerry
