"Flu Vaccine"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire NHS Lanarkshire / Covid 19 Vaccination Programme Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Cardiology (heart problems) Ward 1E South Lanarkshire University Health and Social Care Partnership

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter is 13 years old and was recently off school to have open heart surgery. She was subsequently absent for 4 weeks. During this time the school vaccination team came round and gave everyone the flu vaccine.

When she returned to school I raised the issue that she had missed the flu vaccine with her head of year at her school, they advised to contact the g.p. I contacted the g.p. and they referred me to the school vaccination team at udston hospital.

When I called them they advised they would be round to do a second vaccine for anyone that missed it this would be in December. I then spoke with my daughters cardiologist at the Royal Hospital for sick children, who advised my daughter should get the flu vaccine as a matter of urgency. I then called the pharmacy to see if I could pay for her to get the vaccine, they said no, they can only vaccine over 16 year olds.

I called the vaccination helpline who said they cannot help as they only make appointments for covid and not for flu. I called the Lanarkshire health board who passed me through to the complaints team, who passed me back to the school vaccination team at udston hospital. I called the school vaccination team and they told me my daughter can get the flu vaccine along with her covid vaccine so I should take her to a drop in centre.

I then went to the drop in centre and they said she cannot get the flu vaccine without an appointment for the covid vaccine. I then phoned the cardiac liaison nurse in The royal hospital for sick kids and they said they were not confident that my daughter should get the covid vaccine as she has not passed 3 months post op.

I am at an absolute dead end. I have spoke to the most senior members of staff and my daughter is now 9 weeks post op and at serious risk of becoming ill with the flu or covid. It is affected my mental health as well as my daughters ability to attend school. She is becoming anxious about mixing with others.

I have no idea where to go next as all the doors seem to be closing.

Please can you get someone to help me, I will literally travel anywhere to get her the flu vaccine. She cannot have the nasal spray as she is on medication e.g. aspirin.
