"Exemplary care from Ayrshire Maternity Unit."

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Maternity care

(as a service user),

My fourth pregnancy has just ended, unfortunately prematurely and with the sad outcome of the loss of both my twins. One at 17 weeks following pprom, and the other, my premature son (25+4 weeks following placental abruption). The heart break I'm having to endure at the present is eased a great amount by knowing that the care I received was the best available.

Dr Ellison, and the teams within the maternity day care and assessment units have provided gold standard care throughout my pregnancy. They were all very professional and kind throughout. Dr Ellison went above and beyond to try and ensure the survival of my son after the loss of his twin. Providing regular scans, blood tests and empathy through difficult times. Dr Buck and the staff within the labour suite (midwife Helen in particular) tried their very best to expectantly manage my pregnancy after the abruption, however, it was in vain and I ended up requiring an emergency c section. The theatre staff were all so reassuring to myself and my husband during a very frightening delivery. Especially, the anaesthesiologist (Jamie) who made the spinal and subsequent section process as relaxed and straightforward as possible. Dr Buck, I'll never be able to thank enough for delivering Sean safely in very difficult circumstances. Although we had to say goodbye to him 36 hours later, we wouldn't have had those precious hours if it hadn't been for her excellent surgical skills and the skills of Dr Adams and the neonatal medical/nursing team. I would also like to thank Dr Ramsay and the diabetic specialist midwife (Noreen). Again for their professionalism and empathy.

I cannot thank everyone enough for the care I received. It's very comforting to know that everything that could be done during my pregnancy to achieve a good outcome was done. I have no complaints about my treatment at all. I am also able to take solace in the fact that everything was done to save Sean. We will cherish the precious hours we had with him forevermore.
