"GP Failure"

About: Craigavon Craigavon Area Hospital / 1 North Cardiology Craigavon Area Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

I have been contacting my GP since December but I was told I had long Covid and prescribed antibiotics. The antibiotics never worked but due to the current pandemic and the media influence I assumed my GP was right.

After months of not being able to sleep in bed and having constant SOB my wife called the GP and insisted I be seen in person instead of a telephone chat. The GP did a ECG and “blue lighted” me to CAH. The care provided in 1 North is perfect and the Doctors have prescribed me the appropriate medication as I can feel myself getting better. I am frustrated that my GP panned me off for months as I have since learnt I was suffering heart failure and not long Covid.

Thankfully I have survived to tell the tale but it’s scary to think that I could have died due to my GP lack of personal appointments. A phone call is not sufficient to diagnose an illness. A&E for hours but cannot have an appointment in the GP surgery.

Hello

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of 1 North.

I was sad to read that you were unable to get to us sooner as your GP wouldn't give you a face to face appointment, I can only imagine your frustration. I am glad however, that you are starting to feel better after coming to 1 North and that you have felt well cared for.

I really hope your symptoms continue to improve and you continue to feel better.

Kind regards

Kirsty
