About: Highly Specialist Services / Gender Identity Service (GIS)

(as the patient),

I'm writing a book about my experiences at Porterbrook Medical Centre with a publishers happy to print around the Gender Clinics Services. A life changing experience where I was left feeling lose and alone after years of help being let down by a services that was meant to help.

In short, I never received any help from the Sheffield Gender Clinic. I should have gone to the next place. When a Doctor asked if I have super powers, it was a sign of their inexperience and understanding for trans people.

Thank you for your feedback, at Porterbrook we welcome all feedback as it helps us to shape our services for all our clients.

Unfortunately, we are unable to comment on individual cases through Care Opinion. However, we would like to invite you to contact the clinic on Porterbrook@shsc.nhs.uk where we would like to hear why you felt unsupported in the care you received from the clinic.

Unfortunately like all gender clinics we are facing high demand; this is leading to long waiting times for people. We recognise that this causes upset and anxiety amongst the community and wish to reassure you that as a clinic, supported by our commissioners NHS England, we are doing all we can to reduce the waiting times for the service and through the service during very difficult times.

At the Porterbrook clinic we have several ways our clients can be supported while on their journey with us.

We have our own dedicated Peer Support Worker who has Lived Experience of the Pathway through the clinic available to help support you. They can be contacted through the clinic or on Porterbrook.support@shsc.nhs.uk

We have also partnered up with Gendered Intelligence to offer independent support they can be contacted on 0330 355 9678
