"Going back for more treatment for my C.R.M.O"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Day Care Unit (Ward 1c)

(as the patient),

I had to go back into hospital again for more treatment for my C.R.M.O and shortening of the vertebrae , I was on ward 1c day ward at Glasgow sick kids, from start to finish over 3 days the care and attention from every member of staff was outstanding , the care they gave was excellent, they helped me when I was anxious about getting my canula in they put me at ease and helped distract me as I don't like needles , I was there 7 hours each day for my treatment, they were gentle and when handling my canula and changing my drips, and were so gentle spoken , they made me feel safe And put me at ease , and I didn't feel scared , if I have to go back (which i will be) I know they will put me at ease, this helps me to look forward to my next visit :) with lots of ease.

Hi T-turtle,

It's lovely to hear from you again.

That sounds like a very tough 3 days you experienced, and I was glad to hear you were well supported by our 1C team, particularly in respect of your canula's and their caring approach during drip changes etc.

Living with a chronic condition is a really challenging experience, and I'm aware from the team that the fortitude and resilience you yourself have shown has immensely impressed them.

We will always endeavour to provide age appropriate patient centred care that is right, just for you. If there's ever anything we can do to make your stay with us more comfortable, more entertaining or more engaging, do please let us know. This is a big ask, but if you'd ever feel up to sharing your hospital experience in more detail with us - walk us through your journey - tell us the elements you loved, or the parts you felt we could do even slightly better, we'd be honoured to meet with you.

If this is something you would be willing to help us with, please get in touch: coral.mcgowan@ggc.scot.nhs.uk

In the meantime, on behalf of the whole team, we hope you're recovering well at home.

Take care and best wishes

Coral
