The staff in this department are absolutely superb whilst working under the many constraints, both operational & financial. They are always kind & extremely pleasant
when dealing with my elderly mum.
What I’d like to highlight though are a few areas where NHS Lothian could make things so much easier for her & the many patients who use the service…1. Please send out appointment letters in larger type. The font size used on letters make it impossible for a visually impaired person to read. I’m dumbfounded that the department treating patients for poor vision doesn’t provide communications that are legible???2. Covid restraints mean that patients have to arrive within 5 minutes of their appointments. Many people take the bus or arrive early due to parking issues then are made to stand outdoors in a queue until their appointment time. This is totally unacceptable. My mum has arthritis in her spine & can’t stand for any length of time & she walks with a stick. Plus, it’s unacceptable to make mostly elderly people stand outdoors in the cold. 3. Since patients are unaccompanied now, it would be nice if a staff member could offer to assist patients who have had eye injections to the lift & help them exit the building. I hope these comments are helpful.
Thanks
