"Awful experience "

About: New Birmingham Dental Hospital

I suffer from anxiety and my dentist referred me to the hospital for a tooth extraction. It all went fine at the time but as soon as the procedure finished I was dismissed instantly. I was never explained any aftercare or what could happen.

Anyway two days after surgery I was in excruciating pain. I rang the hospital begging them to see me and they said they won't. I rang 111 and they couldn't do anything. I ended up finding an emergency dentist to take a look at my mouth and they said I had a dry socket and an infection. They said the way the tooth was pulled out it wasn't done correctly there is a lot of trauma to the gum. I had to pay over £100 for this service.

I'm completely and utterly disappointed with the hospital. How can you carry out a procedure and if something goes wrong after you won't see the patient? I have been traumatised by this whole experience.

Dear Sannam

I am sorry to read of the post-extraction problems you have experienced and for the pain you have had following an extraction. In order to ensure the clinical team involved in your care are aware of the situation, please call 0800 917 2855 and ask to speak with Gareth Edwards so that he can note your details to follow up with the team.

I do hope your mouth is now healing well and I sincerely apologise for the lack of advice about home after-care and if you were not advised of the possibility of infection.

With kind regards

Anne Pemberton

Patient Experience Manager
