"Audiology clinic"

About: Lanarkshire Community Services / Audiology

(as the patient),

I recently phoned audiology as I was having feed back on my hearing aid. Which was frequent and annoying. I have had a hearing aid for a number of years and never experienced any problems in the past. I asked if it was possible to have an appointment with audiology clinic. The member of staff I spoke to told me you will experience this with hearing aids. I duly said so I just have to put up with this and they said yes. End of conversation.

I was not happy with the outcome. I went online and looked up feedback on hearing aids. I did get a few explanations which were very helpful. One being there could be a problem with the dome, I also remembered I had put in a new dome, luckily enough I had a spare and changed the said dome. What a difference. Problem solved. I was left feeling let down after the phone call. Before covid, I had no problems attending ear clinics to get dome and hearing aids checked. The staff at Wishaw are very helpful as are Stonehouse and Hairmyres. I unfortunately can't have a hearing aid in my right ear due to having a Mastoid operation when I was younger. I really depend on my hearing aid and feel I am not getting the proper service due to communication with the person at Hamilton Clinic not being very helpful.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on Care Opinion.

I was very sorry to read about the difficulties that you have been having with your hearing aid feeding back. I am also disappointed to learn that you were not happy with the outcome of your conversation with our team on the Audiology advice line.

Due to changes in our service as a result of Covid 19 we no longer have drop in clinics for hearing aid repairs so instead the role of our advice line should be trouble shooting over the phone or signposting to online resources and if this does not solve the problem then an appointment would be offered. It would appear that this has not been your experience and I would offer my sincere apologies for this.

I am glad that you were able to resolve the feedback by yourself by going online and that using a spare dome that you had has corrected the feedback. I would like to send you spare tubes and domes so that you have these should the problem occur again.

You can request these by calling the advice line, or sending an email or by text.
