Anything else?
Having been a patient, both inpatient and outpatient, since the Spinal Unit opened in 1992 (and at te Prom Hospital before that), I have nothing but the highest praise for the care, treatment and ongoing continual support that I and my family receive from all the staff from Consultant to Cleaner. With only 10 Spinal Units in the UK, I rate Southport as the best. All the staff are kind, caring, compassionate and most importantly, good at their jobs. They work as a team to achieve the best outcome possible for the patient and their family. No questions are left unanswered and believe me, when you incur a Spinal Cord Injury, you have a lot of questions!
Anyone who watched the 2012 Paralympic Games will have seen many of Southport SIU's patients and staff both past and present. Even the sculptured lecterns that were used in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies were created by an ex-Southport paraplegic. They were used by Sir Philip Craven, President of The International Paralympic Committee and former Southport patient. The philosophy and great medical care delivered at Southport equips the patients to achieve the highrst possible quality of life within the limits of their diabilities.
A remarkable Unit.
