"Employment support"

About: Adult Mental Health Services - Community (County) / IPS Future's Positive Intellectual Developmental Disabilities /Learning Disability Services - Community / Neurodevelopmental Specialist Service

(as a service user),

I received employment support  from Emma from Futures Positive. I am ADHD, Dyslexic, OCD, recovering Alcoholic and have struggled with depression and anxiety all my life trying to keep up with life's demands and turning to drugs and alcohol. Struggling with never feeling enough yet knowing if i was given the right support i could do so much more. I  have always struggled with staying on task staying motivated and coping with the on going and constant failure and almost making it to fall at the last hurdle.

I have thankfully i have been getting help for my ADHD for last few years at Stone bridge with a amazing person called Alex. She saw my struggles and potential  and my passion to want to help people. Alex spoke very highly of and  put me into contact with Emma at Future's Positive.

She has been a amazing Godsend working with me at every level. She is very caring and empathetic and i could tell she always listening to everything i shared with her and she cared.

She helped me clean up my C.V and show my skills and experience clearly. She has shown me and put me forward for jobs that i always wanted but felt i did not have enough education or experience , we had many obstacle which when i'm alone i burn out and walk away from many half done things. I could not believe  i received a interview from Nottingham College for a job. I did not get the job but just being called and interview was such a confidence booster.

Emma kept finding me jobs for teaching assistant but me not having my English and Math i could not apply for many jobs, but having Emma with me i did not lose motivation as i usually do. Emma found me online english and Math which i would not have found alone. I tried to do the online learning but the teacher and her approach did not work for me. I told Emma she understood and found another school. As i mentioned Emma is very adaptable and resourceful , nothing ever stopped her from finding a way , we changed from teaching assistant to support worker as i mentioned my main aim is to help people with learning difficulties. She got me my next huge opportunity , a interview with Nottingham Community House  which i would have never found or would have called into interview if it was not for Emma's help.

I did not get the job but was happy to be selected and knowing I had her support i was more hopeful that something good will happen soon if we keep working together. Thanks to Emma i'm about to start a dream job helping people with learning difficulties. They called me very quickly. thanks to emma's help to get ready for interview and not make the mistakes from previous interview i was able to stay more focused and felt more relaxed and confident than before. I had a online interview and was given the job in the interview because she said she could see i was a caring and honest person and would fit well in their organisation.

As i have said without Emma's help i would not be at this stage her cleaning my C.V  3 giant companies noticed me and called for a interview because they could see my skills and abilities. Now because of the help and support i have been given from Emma i can give back and help the people who really need the help, having learning difficulties myself i can empathise with people more.

I am so grateful to have met Emma she made me feel safe and supported she listened to me from a place of empathy and gave me a much needed boost .The last few years have been very difficult for me. She is a inspiration she lost a family member and a pet and still carried on supporting me , that takes a lot of strength and compassion , she gives and helps with out holding back, she saw my potential and found a way to focus my goals and give me direction.

I feel so honoured and privileged to have met Emma , She has inspired me and focused my scattered life and has given it a purpose to give back and help others.

Hi Mabz

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I'm pleased that you have found Alex and Emma so supportive, and that this has resulted in you gaining employment.

I'm sure your story will be inspiring to others and gives other people hope that things can change. I hope your post encourages others to ask to be referred to the Futures Positive service so they can also benefit.

I wish you all the best with your continued recovery, Tracey
