"Signage on buildings & lack of blue badge parking"

About: University Hospital Aintree

Having taken my husband to Aintree Hospital today for a pre arranged CT Scan @ Radiology Elective Care Centre and not being familiar with the layout of the hospital. The difficulty we had firstly in trying to find a blue badge parking space or indeed any parking spaces in any of the car parks including the multi storey was a disaster. Poor signage of the Radiology Dept. We gave up and after phoning the said department we cancelled the appointment & returned home. My husband is aged 85 & although can walk a short distance before having breathing difficulties we had to be able to access the Radiology without too much stress therefore having uncertainty about exactly where we were supposed to be we took the decision to return home minus the CT Scan. I have since spoken to one of the secretaries & requested a change of hospital as we have Broadgreen Heart & Chest just a short distance away from where we live. Altogether a very disappointing experience & a wasted journey.

Dear Irene

We are so sorry to hear of your experience when attending Aintree Hospital site with your husband for a pre-arranged CT scan. Signage has been reviewed on a number of occasions in an effort to simplify wayfinding and we are sincerely sorry that you found the signage unsatisfactory which led to a poor experience and missed appointment. I would like to assure you that we will use your experience to learn from this and review signage to determine how we can improve and prevent your experience happening again.

The main Multi-story car park is the closest car park to the Elective Care Centre and contains blue badge parking at ground and 2nd floor level where there is a link bridge to the main hospital facilities. However, we acknowledge that blue badge spaces may not have been available when you attended.

We would like to assure you that blue badge parking is a high priority on site and demand for spaces is monitored. When planning changes to services or new facilities, the Estates Team review provision and take the opportunity where we can, to provide the spaces in appropriate locations.

We do hope that you have now been able to re-arrange the appointment to a location closer to your home.

We value your feedback and would like thank you for sharing your experience with us.

Thank you
