"Long wait in Children's A&E"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Accident and emergency Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

I brought my daughter in this evening for treatment for a wound (needing stitches). While the staff were doing their best and were kind and helpful, there appeared to be nowhere near enough of them. There also appeared to be a problem with the heating, making the area unbearably hot.

I feel for the staff, who were being professional and kind to everyone complaining about the extraordinary waiting times and who clearly were uncomfortable in the heat too.

But this is the first time I've been to A&E and felt the lack of staff and witnessed the overwhelming of the service. It's heartbreaking to see.

We've been here 3 hours so far, with no end in sight and an estimate that it will be closer to 5 hours before she's treated. There are sick babies screaming and a child with (apparently) a severe burn also waiting in the waiting area - all need seeing much sooner than this.

Again, none of this is the staff's fault - they seem to need many more doctors.
