My mother-in-law was told she had pancreatic cancer at the end of September 2021. Both Doctors & nurses have been good when she was in hospital.
My mother-in-law lives with my sister-in-law. She been finding it hard to walk so today. She was helped to the toilet, after doing the toilet she could not stand up even with help by my niece & sister-in-law.
After about 15-20 mins she still could not get up so my niece called the the District nurse team for help as that was one of a few phone numbers they had. Only to be asked by a District nurse what we wanted them to do. They told us the district nurses can't help, we should just dial 999. This does not look bad but it was not what was said it was how they said it. They also never tried to offer any other help apart from saying phone 999. My mother-in-law was on the toilet for nearly 3hrs due to no help from the District nurses.
My cousin luckily came in to vist her and thanks to him my mother-in-law was able to get back into bed. My mother-in-law will be 75 years old soon if she lives long enough. I think if you work with or along side the NHS you should no how to talk to a patient & their family. Especially if the patient may have a few month to live.
