"Help with COVID Passport Exemption"

About: NHS National Services Scotland

(as a carer),

As a parent/carer I have been trying for several weeks now to apply for a Covid Passport exemption for both my autistic sons who are significantly impacted in their daily life and are unable to be vaccinated. I have emailed several people for 3 weeks now so that I could get everything prepared before the Covid Passport was rolled out and have got no further forward.

The covid status app has been available for weeks now so why has there been no mention of how to apply for this or even give the option to download and print from the website? I have been on the Scottish Government website, NHS website where I have phoned a few numbers but advisors have no information at all on this. They have all been pleasant enough on the telephone but not helpful due to not being able to provide this information. All have suggested contacting our GP, which I have on numerous occasions but they have not received any guidelines for this either so can't help.

I am disgusted that there is no information available anywhere. I feel this is clearly discriminating against those who are unable to be vaccinated through no fault of their own. Both my sons still follow all asked of them, keep a distance, wear face masks. They need support out in the community and their only purpose in life is watching football, which is going to be taken from them, affecting their mental health, which already is impacted massively living in a world where not all understand and can accommodate them! Surely this is discrimination and should not be happening going with the Equality Act? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You have probably seen this webpage. It says a letter will be sent to those with medical exemption.

You may know people with autism/learning disabilities were in priority group 6 for vaccination. I don't know what constitutes a medical exemption but suspect autism is not routinely categorised as such.

There is a contact tab at the bottom of this page where you may be able to enquire further.

Good luck.

Hi Sam, thanks for your reply.Yes,I already have been through all the various links. Autism does not give you an automatic exemption so they will likely not receive this in the post. Their disability affects them differently, and this not being freely available really confirms a real lack of understanding of Autism which is quite sad in this day and age. I am looking for information on who or which department I can contact, where theses letters are being sent from if possible? Not every autistic person will be able to be vaccinated and as usual, I am their voice. The fight for support and services is really disgusting and being a carer, we are having to take time from our role to chase these up constantly. I would be grateful if you could send the info requested.

Kind Regards
