"Icd-Defibrillator Implant"

About: Russells Hall Hospital / Cardiology

(as the patient),

I had my implant in 07/2021 at Russell’s Hall cardiology day case unit. Everyone were very welcoming and kind. After the procedure I was given a monitor and leaflet and went home.

Two days later I was in Severe pain. I phoned the number on leaflet. To be told the devices clinic  not open at weekends, and that I was probably having a panic attack. I was not. It turns out that one of the leads was not in deep enough, so I had to go back in and have the procedure repeated. It has taken all my confidence, and although I have been back once for a check up , I am still having a lot of discomfort around the site of the device, wound areas do my breast.

I have been in touch with devices clinic, but am just told it takes time for things to heal , which I understand.  This does not however, make me feel any better. It has been 12 weeks now, so, surely I should be feeling an improvement. I feel the aftercare is not good, since I have been told I will be reviewed in 12 months . I need reassurance which I am not getting. When I rang I was told that if I felt I needed to be seen, then call back and they would get me in. I feel they should be calling me in in the light of what happened. While the care I received at both procedures were excellent, the aftercare is quite lacking.
