I'm high functioning but have struggled with mental health issues for most of my life. I've endured several intense and lengthy episodes of significant illness. I've had medication, CBT and other interventions over the years.
However, over the past few months I've been having schema therapy & the psychologist I have been seeing 'gets' me. It feels as though she knows me better than I do. She's skilfully, gently and empathetically helping me to understand why I am the way I am. The maladaptive protective layers in my mind that have shielded me from childhood trauma are coming into view and I'm looking forward to my healthy adult self soothing my internal pain.
My psychologist has been carefully patient and used gentle exploration of my pain and the weight started to lift, she is such a nice person.
I know there's a lot of work to do but I feel optimistic for the future.
I feel so grateful to have met this wonderful person and I just wanted to say thank you.
