"Smoking at main entrance should be banned"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / 3 South

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I have been in this ward 3 South for nearly a week and I am happy with care provided. I am spoilt for choice at meal times. The hospital itself does not need any improvements but I think patients from A&E smoking at entrance doors are unacceptable. My wife was leaving in a package for me and she choked on the smoke of at least 20 people smoking at front doors.

Dear patient, thank you for sharing this feedback and disappointment that there was non-compliance with our Smoke Free sites Policy on your wife's visit to the Craigavon Hospital site.

We have this policy in place to protect everyone from the harmful effects of inhaling second-hand tobacco smoke and to help keep our hospital site clean. We have a Smoke Free warden on site to encourage people to comply with our policy and patients and staff are offered the tools and support they need to help them stop smoking. Nicotine Replacement Therapy is available at ward level for inpatients to help them quit smoking.

We will be continuing our efforts to communicate with everyone coming to our hospital sites to support us in being a Smoke Free hospital site.

Lynne, Health Improvement
