"The birth of my baby boy"

About: Maternity care / Antenatal and Postnatal (Ward 38) Maternity care / Labour Suite Perth Royal Infirmary / Community Midwifery Unit Scottish Ambulance Service / Patient Transport Service

(as the patient),

It’s been a week now since I gave birth to my darling boy and It did not go at all how I thought it would. He is my first child and I thought when my contractions started I would have a smooth labour and would soon meet my wee boy. It didn’t go the way I thought and was an absolute rollercoaster of emotions throughout, I was in labour for 3 days which ended in an emergency c-section as his heart rate dropped. I have to say from me getting to Perth maternity unit, the ambulance crew that took me to ninewells, the care from the labour ward, theatre staff and postnatal ward was outstanding! Everyone should be extremely proud of the care they deliver and how compassionate they are even under extreme conditions with services across nhs being so stretched. I would 100% be struggling more emotionally with my recovery if I hadn’t received the care I did so thank you all! Thank you for delivering my beautiful boy safe. Also a small shout out to the care I have received from my midwife Elspeth pre/postnatal her support has been amazing!!

Thank you so much for taking the time to feed back to us. I will ensure the staff are all aware of the positive impact their care has had on you. I know that your words will mean so much to Elspeth and the team in Ninewells and it is much appreciated. Enjoy these special times with your beautiful boy.

Iona (Senior Midwife)
