"Beyond the call of duty"

About: Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital

I had a booked outpatients appointment with the Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon on Friday 24 September 2021, specified to attend the QEQM Fracture Clinic at 14.50. I attended at the appointed hour only to be informed that the clinic was not there but at completely at the other side of the hospital. Having had two replacement hips a replacement knee and 3 heart attacks and being 76, these days I am not so nimble, but I set off to find the clinic I had been directed to. I got as far as the lift to the first floor when a nurse from the fracture clinic rushed up to tell me she had contacted the clinic I was supposed to go to and found it had been cancelled due to the surgeon having had to take on an emergency procedure. Then news came through that the clinic was, in fact ongoing. the nurse could see I was in some physical difficulty and took me to the clinic herself by wheelchair. It was then established that, in fact, there was no clinic, so she arranged for a porter to attend at outpatients and take me back to the main Margate Road entrance. Care like that isn't trained, it's instinctive and it's what people like me wonder at with the fine work and care the NHS provides. I hope you are able to identify the individual involved and pass on my true gratitude for her care and compassion. Thank you,
