My husband was very lucky to receive a hip replacement at Hairmyres. I required to contact OOH on the Sunday evening, the GP I eventually spoke to was extremely unhelpful. As I work in the nhs I knew where he could access the service I required and he did so. The nurses who attended were excellent.
Due to unforeseen complications my husband had to attend a and e at hairmyres the following night. The care was so poor that my husband, after getting bloods taken, discharged himself due to his pain level and discomfort he could no longer tolerate.
I would like to highlight that ward 5 and the surgeons provided excellent care however the system, in this case I feel failed my husbands needs post operatively due to complications. This concerns me, both my husband and I work within the NHS and have medical knowledge and required to articulate this knowledge to ensure the essential care is carried out, if we did not have this knowledge I fear that the care required would not have been delivered resulting in a negative outcome.
"Unforeseen complications"
