Hi there I am writing this story to document our thanks to the fantastic staff at the above unit, but in particular the mid wife, Lisa.
My fiancee and I have been awaiting the arrival of our baby daughter, who was due on on the 19th September, with excitement and nervousness. With us being so overdue, 10 days, we were booked in for an induced birth until through the night of the 28th into the 29th naturally it was clear things were now progressing.
We attended the RAH Mat Unit at around 0315hrs and was met there with Lisa, whom I had spoken to briefly on the phone before going. This visit led us to having the birth of our beautiful daughter at 0916hrs, with the exceptional help and work of Lisa within the unit. As you can imagine with any birth both parents will be exceptionally excited and the enjoyment of a new arrival would make any parent want to write the most positive of stories. This is a very positive story but I want to record the absolute quality of service we received from Lisa and her employers the NHS should be so so proud that they have a member of staff with such commitment, pride and who above all shows her personal values in the work that she does to a wonderfully high standard.
This next part centres around our experience with Lisa and the department. Lisa is based at the Community Maternity Unit and when we arrived through the night it was clear, like most public sector organisations resourcing was tight yet the demand for Lisa and others in the unit was high.
Lisa from the start showed her skills, knowledge and personal qualities in looking after my fiancee and I through the night. The reassurance, explanations and thoroughness enabled both of us to make the best decisions for the birth of our daughter. Without doubt she worked tirelessly without a break, juggling numerous priorities and all the time being patient focussed. Her only time away from us were to go to the toilet, grab a quick slice of toast and answer the phone meanwhile providing us with the most professional of care. As the night turned into morning her determination to look after my partner shone through and even though she had completed a full nightshift she stayed on until her job, which she started, was complete. The birth we went through wasn't exactly conventional without challenges yet at every turn she portrayed the utmost confidence in what she was doing allowing us both to be as relaxed as possible. A monumental effort from a member of staff doing her job and one she could have quite easily handed over to her colleagues coming in on the dayshift.
Others at the unit also get praise for how we were treated and all 3 of us walked out of there beaming as we were new parents to our wee girl but hugely appreciative and humbled by the selfless desire and pure graft of Lisa.
In todays age of making complaints to the public sector and using the power of social media I cannot stress enough that the whole unit based at Paisley do an incredible job through some real challenging times at the moment. Lisa will always be remembered for the hours of sheer graft she put in that night which for me went way beyond of what was expected. This for me needed shared and the public who attend this unit can have the confidence that the staff working there are on their game and will deliver the best service even in the face of adversity.
Lisa I am forever grateful for the role you played in bringing our wee girl into the world. The NHS should be proud and grateful for the role you perform. Thank you.
