"Hospital is a godsend"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

On a Friday evening I found that when I went to pee there was blood in my urine, having had cancer before I was worried and tried ringing every number in the book to get to see someone but to no avail.  The next morning I was still peeing blood but it seemed no one wanted to know, most of the A & E's were closed.  Monday  still couldn't find anyone to help me and the problem did seem to be slowing down with just flecks of blood in my urine now, I was finally advised to take a sample into Stratton Medical centre.  By sheer coincidence my own GP rang me on the Monday quite out of the blue to enquire after my health.  I told Dr Vic was what going on and he said I needed to go to the hospital - specifically the Urology department due to my previous history of cancer and he made the arrangements.

With a time frame of two weeks I was seen at Barnstaple Urology by Mr Evans, I had my operation, was given my prognosis and received a phone call to let me know they had managed to remove the cancer and so far everything is looking good.  Mr Evans told me ' we've beaten it' which is a huge relief.  I live with low grade cancer but it's nothing to worry about.

I have always been full if praise for Barnstaple Hospital they have looked after me not only with my cancer but when I had my strokes also.  I have much admiration for all the staff there. It is full of beautiful people that are so gifted and do not receive enough praise, they work such long hours but the lady I spoke with still had time to talk with me and explain everything.

I can only say my times at Barnstaple were excellent.

This hospital is a godsend, other hospitals are quite a distance to travel to, this one is just 32 miles for me and I would fight tooth and nail to keep it open.

Not enough praise given to the NHS.  Thank you

Dear grushj85

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to leave such positive feedback regarding your treatment from Mr Evans and his team. I am sorry to hear that you have had further symptoms related to your previous cancer. However, I am pleased to hear that you were referred promptly by your GP to Urology and had your investigations and treatment in a timely fashion. I will be sure to pass on your feedback to Mr Evans and his team. I wish you well for your continued care at NDDH and I hope that you continue to find a high standard of service from all future contact you may have at NDDH.

Thank you again for providing feedback.

Kind regards

Paula
