"Staff needed for patients waiting to be seen in A&E reception area"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / 3 South Craigavon Area Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I have been in hospital for almost 2 weeks. I had to wait in A&E for 12 hours before being seen. The chairs in A&E reception area are uncomfortable. I was not offered food during this 12 hours and because I came by ambulance I forgot to bring my purse so could not purchase from shop. When I was admitted to yellow bay the HCA offered me Tea and Toast and ensured I was comfortable. The bleeping in the bay gave me a headache but this cannot be avoided. If I could improve anything in A&E it would be a staff member to look after patients waiting in reception area and to somehow make the machines bleep less.

I was moved to 3 south and the staff are friendly and look after me well. It is a busy ward but I have no complaints. The meals are very good, I enjoy them a bit too much.

Good Afternoon,

Thank you for taking the time to share you story via care opinion.

I am sorry to read about your long wait in reception, unfortunately the chairs in the waiting area were designed for cleaning rather than comfort, especially when sitting on them for a prolonged time I can just imagine how uncomfortable they are.

Never be afraid to ask the staff for food when required, they will do everything in their power to provide you with something, we quite often have patients arriving under these circumstances. I am glad to read however that you were well cared for in the clinical area even with all the beeping. I totally agree they can be annoying but as you quite rightly said it cant be avoided with so many patients in the one area.

I wish you well with your recovery.

Lisa

Clinical Sister
