I had an appointment for an echocardiogram today, 29.09.21. My letter said Cardiology dept. Top floor, D block, from a map I had seen online, D block was on the road to the right of the hospital . However, when I arrived at the hospital I could not see any signs which indicated where the Cardiology dept. was or for block D. I eventually found a member of staff near the car parks at the bottom of that road who kindly directed me to the top, I was on foot. Considering this is a cardiology dept. for patients with heart problems, perhaps not very fit or able to walk easily or far, this is at best thoughtless.
Poor signage seems to be a common problem throughout the hospital, perhaps the department responsible for signage could ask people who don’t know where the departments are to test them out.
I was not the only person hunting for a department this morning. Attending hospital is a stressful experience, not being able to find the correct department and on time, is more needless anxiety .
Once in the Cardiology department, the echocardiogram was done promptly and with curtesy and consideration .
