"Lack of communication in childrens services"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus / Paediatrics

(as a service user),

What is wrong with children's services, let me tell you the number one cause of all the problems we've faced... communication!

About a week of preparation goes into these appointments on my behalf, the planning of treats, the numbing cream, the horrific fear of needles she has developed talked through, drove all the way to the city hospital yesterday to show her where we were going to help her anxiety.

Blood test for my daughter at at 2.40pm today at the children's centre who were, I was told, brilliant with anxiety and autism, would be totally understanding, definitely the right place to go.

I rang at 2.40pm to say we were going to be late as I was struggling to get her out the door, told don't worry just get here as soon as you can, I will make sure they know you are still coming.

Arrived at 3.05 went into reception told we needed to go a different way, 3.20 I managed to coax my daughter around to the other side of the building to be told we had been put down as "did not attend" and referred back to the doctor.

They had no prior notice of her diagnosis, anxiety or that we were late, no messages got through. Despite the fact that when the appointment was booked I explained how severe my daughter's anxiety was and I rang to ask if we could pop down for  a visit prior to the appointment, explaining, yet again how anxious my little girl was.

Both of us drove home in tears.

So sick of this system and its false promises, can people pass messages on when they say they are going to, I can't take anymore false hope.

I broke down at the door, said you have no idea what I have been through in the last 7 hours to get her here for now, yes we were late and I totally understand that's not helpful but I am doing everything I can and nothing is helping, nothing is working, nothing is changing.

Oh and we have been discharged from family services because apparently Mum has it all in hand do you know what - Mum is bloody sick of having it all in her hands and is desperate for help.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. I am incredibly sorry to hear about your experience on the day of your daughter’s appointment. We would like the opportunity to investigate this further to determine what caused the breakdown in communication that led to your messages not being passed on and your daughter’s appointment not going ahead. Please could you contact us by emailing QMCPET@nuh.nhs.uk with your preferred contact details so that we may get in touch to discuss this further with you.
