"They were quite short staffed"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Elective Overnight Stay Centre/Gynaecology Ward Daisy Hill Hospital / Emergency Department Daisy Hill Hospital / Male Medical

(as a service user),

My Daisy Hill Experience began with a two week stay in male medical. It was absolutely fantastic up there, the staff were all brilliant. However, there were two nurses in particular who were brilliant - Grace and Student Nurse Emma - two excellent nurses and I mean excellent.  My only complaint would be that they were quite short staffed and I was not checked on very much in the night.

My current stay began with a 14 hour wait in an A&E corridor. I found this quite difficult, especially when I needed the toilet as I had difficulty getting to it by myself.

Up on female surgical, again all the staff are brilliant - really nice and caring.  The only improvement I could suggest would be more single beds/side wards to be available.

Good afternoon

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience about our Emergency Department.

Firstly may I apologise for the long wait that you had. We would certainly agree you should not have been waiting in a corridor but been admitted onto an admission bed.

The Trust is working hard to improve the flow of patients out of the emergency department up to admission wards.

I hope that you are recovering well.

Regards

Paul Smyth

Many thanks for your kind words about the staff in Male medical and in particular the two individuals you have mentioned. I will be sure to feed this back to them.

I am sorry you were not checked on as much at night. There are times when we have been short staffed but we also have a reduced staff at night. I will be sure to feed this back to staff to ensure all patients are checked on regularly at night.

Regards

John Mc Ateer, Charge Nurse
