"Constant undiagnosed testicular pain"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

Iv suffered from severe testicular pain for about 9 months now . Iv had many tests done including physical examinations, blood & urine tests . 2 ultrasounds and more. The only thing that has been found is two 5mm cysts in my scrotum and the urologist doctor at pilgrim hospital dismissed them as not being the source of the pain and then simply brushed me off and sent me to pain management . Upon speaking to pain management they was shocked that I was sent there because normally people are there when surgery has failed to work and nobody has even attempted to sort out my cysts yet by surgery so I’m in the process of getting a second opinion elsewhere instead and hopefully they will care for me better than the urology department at Pilgrim hospital .

However when I went to the A&E department yesterday for what turned out to be a urinary tract infection (probably caused by the cysts in my scrotum becoming inflamed as it’s been 9 months in severe pain) the staff was brilliant. The doctor I saw was swift and good to deal with me so I could go back home.

Dear Truth talker

We want you to know that we are very grateful for your feedback; unfortunately our services are under significant pressure at the moment with many staff redeployed from their usual roles to help out and this is likely to mean a delay in our response. We apologise for this but want to assure you we will come back to you. Thank you again.

Jennie

Dear Truth talker

Thankyou for your such lovely feedback. We are so pleased you had a positive experience whilst in the department. I will ensure this is passed on to both nursing and medical staff.

Kind Regards, Holly Carter- Senior Sister PHB ED.

I would hardly say it’s an overall positive experience, it’s totally the opposite. I have been failed in every aspect of my health problems that’s been 9 months and still ongoing!

The only positive thing is I met one helpful doctor along the way for a very short while, other than that it’s been a nightmare and poorly treated by the Nhs so far they simply pass you from pillar to post

Hello - I would like to apologise - I can totally appreciate why you feel so let down and understand your reaction to Holly's response above, though please know it wasn't meant in that way at all. Holly was responding to the section in your posting about the brilliant care you received in A&E but on reading this alongside the main thrust of your experience and having no reference to this I can understand how you have read this. I am sorry.

I am pleased you are getting a second opinion now though sorry you have had to do so, and I think it is important that we feed this back to the urology team; would you be willing to email patient.experience@ulh.nhs.uk with some more detail so we can look into this further?

I hope your pain is settling and that you are able to get some answers and treatment very soon.

Once again my apologies.

Jennie

I have taken the email you have posted and I will be posting a review because the way I simply got dismissed/brushed off to be potentially left in pain ongoing potentially for life was just seriously poor service from the urology department.

Thanks for your reply.
