"Emergency admission"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency Victoria Hospital / Admissions Unit 1 (Emergency Medical) Victoria Hospital / Cardiology

(as a service user),

I had a turn while shopping with a friend and became unwell. The First Aider in the shop called an ambulance. This arrived within 15 minutes and the Paramedics were very kind and reassuring whilst also making me laugh.

I was taken to A&E where I was quickly seen by Nurses and a Dr. Again I was treated with care and compassion. Bloods were taken and the decision made to admit me to Medical admissions one. The staff there were very very busy but that did not detract from my care. Although I am in my 70's I was certainly not treated like an old woman - when this happens I am particularly annoyed, just because people get older it doesn’t mean we should be treated differently and this unfortunately does often happen. (Inside I’m still 22)

I was seen by the Consultants on the ward and my condition discussed.

On the second day I was seen by a Cardiologist who clearly explained what investigations were to be done. So I left hospital with a very clear plan of my future treatment.

There is much criticism at times about our NHS and Ambulance service but I think we all need to remember that most stories are like mine.

Thank you to all the staff who treated me I won’t forget your kindness and professionalism.

Dear Granny,

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide feedback on CareOpinion. I am really sorry to hear that you had the need to use our services and that of the wider NHS. I hope that you are feeling better and on the road to a successful care plan.

I am so pleased and touched to read your words. It is so nice to read some good feedback and in particular, the point you make around the majority of our feedback being positive Our staff do a wonderful job and are currently working harder than they ever have. They obviously made quite an impact on you, making patients smile is so important to how they feel.

If you would like I would be happy to pass on your lovely comments to the crew. In order to do this I would just need the date, time and location that they attended you as well as your name, then we can find the job and find the crew. You can pass this information to sas.feedback@nhs.scot and my team will organise this for you. I would be really grateful if you could also make reference to your CareOpinion username so that the team can easily link your feedback to this story.

Thanks again and all the very best

Kind Regards

Alan
