About: The Longley Centre / Maple Ward

Went to maple ward, girlfriend taken in the night before. Website said visitors welcome but when I got there I was told I had to have an appointment and they wouldn't let me in. I'd been at work all day and then had a nightmare journey over with bus after bus not turning up and finally paid for a cab as time was ticking on. Finding the ward on the grounds was a bit of a mission as well so to be told I couldn't come in was very frustrating so please update your website to reflect visitors need an appointment so people don't waste precious time and energy on a pointless journey. Don't even remember getting much of an apology from staff about it either.

Thank you for your message.

Last year we had to limit the amount of visitors that we can have coming to the ward due to the Covid pandemic.

As restrictions have lifted in the majority of areas, unfortunately this has not been the case within healthcare settings. Our staff are still required to wear face masks and to maintain social distancing requirements wherever possible. As such the restrictions to visiting have also remained in place. I have noticed that this is clearly documented on the Trust website - https://www.shsc.nhs.uk/services/maple-ward - and - https://www.shsc.nhs.uk/coronavirus

I'm sorry to hear that you had a frustrating journey to the ward, the added pressure of having a loved-one admitted to hospital will have surely have added to your stress, and then to be refused access to them I can only apologise for. I would have hoped, under the circumstances, that some arrangement could have been made.

Thank you for highlighting the attitude of staff. I strive to ensure that everyone is treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. I will be highlighting your concerns with the rest of the team.
