"C-section dressing"

About: Dr Gray's Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

My dressing for my section had started to peel away (3 days post op), my midwife removed the dressing for me (at home) and I asked for my comfort for it to be redressed at the hospital. The dressing was not supposed to be removed for at least another 3-5 days however this couldn’t have been avoided. My midwife was happy to accommodate for my own comfort and had requested at Dr Gray’s for this to be done. The staff member I spoke to at Ward 3 had mentioned on the phone that this wasn’t necessary but would do this for me if I wished. As I was only 4 days post op, it was something that I really wanted, as stated above, for comfortability.

When arriving at ward 3 the nurse (I have a name upon request) seemed very aggressive in their mannerisms. I felt like they really didn’t want to do this for me. They abruptly came into the room and checked over my section. I felt they were very forthcoming in offering their opinion that this was not something I needed and that this had been a wasted journey.

The staff member said they would only be redressing the section to shut me up. I was utterly shocked and was made to feel unbelievably uncomfortable as soon as they stepped into the room. Then went of to inform me that I’d be more at risk of infections if I were to be redressed and that they would need to severely scrub the area to redress.

This made me uncomfortable and I didn’t want them to touch me. I still wished for my wound to be redressed but felt so uncomfortable that I did not request this or ask to be seen by another member of staff as I felt like they would have objected and I felt intimidated.

I left the hospital completely shocked by the way I had been treated and I could barely speak through the tears when telling my husband about what had happened.

Hello correspondencepc48

Thank you for sharing your experience via care opinion.

I am extremely sorry for the treatment you received while on ward 3, this is no the standard of care I would expect to be provided by any staff member.

With your permission, I would like to explore your experience further and would be grateful if you would contact me directly via my email address detailed below.

Best wishes
