"CGL was a great help"

About: CGL Birmingham

(as a service user),

Well my story started 16 years ago when first started smoking crack cocaine and then moved onto heroin 2 years later and since then I've been in and out of drug services, but with CGL is the first time Ive felt that I actually had a drug worker that cared and wanted to help me. In December 2020 2 days before xmas social services took my 4 day old baby girl and put her in foster care due to my drug issues instead of me thinking its the end of the world and getting deeper into the drugs my drug worker card helped me in my recovery she made me understand you can't do it alone, and to join in on courses they provide and groups via zoom and also fircroft college. It was the best decision Ive ever made as now 5 months on Im still abstinent from drugs and on the verge of getting my baby girl back. Thankyou CGL.

Dear giraffekn66

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your story with us.

I'm Lydia and I'm part of the team of people who listen to and respond to people's feedback.

When I read your story I was so glad to hear about the amazing amounts of progress you have made in your recovery.

It's really great to hear how well you've been supported by your worker. It sounds like she's done an amazing job of letting you know about the importance of making connections in recovery and then helping you to get involved in different groups. I'll make sure that your feedback about her is shared across our whole service so it can be acknowledged by all of our staff and managers.

I hope your time at Fircroft College goes very well. I regularly hear great things about their courses and tutors and I hope you achieve all that you set out to achieve with your education there.

But most importantly, I'd like to wish you all the best with children's services and getting your baby girl back. I can't begin to imagine how tough those moments must have been in December 2020 when she went into foster care. Since then, it sounds like you have worked hard to completely turn your life around and I hope that you feel incredibly proud of everything you have achieved, not just for you, but for her too.

Take care, keep believing in yourself and best wishes in your continued recovery.

Lydia
