"We felt reassured and supported"

About: Altnagelvin Area Hospital / Emergency department Northern Ireland Ambulance Service / Emergency ambulance response Paediatrics / Ward 5

(as a parent/guardian),

Hi, I'd just like to express the upmost gratitude for the care we received for my 16 month old baby over the weekend at Altnagelvin. The team at a&e and ward 5 were amazing and we felt very reassured and supported at such a scary time.

I'd like to especially mention the two paramedics who arrived at our home, not only did they show myself, my partner and my parents empathy but they stayed at resuscitation right up until they knew my son was stable and supported us throughout alongside the a&e team. I'm not sure if that is standard practice but I truly felt like they were going above and beyond.

You really all are earth angels and we are very lucky and thankful to have had the care we did. Thank you 🤍

Dear emcglaughlin91

Firstly let me say how happy I am that your son is stable and I trust is continuing to grow stronger by the day. I myself had a very sick baby and understand the stress, trauma, fear and devastation when you face an emergency situation such as this.

You, your partner and parents were in an overwhelming and frightening situation and there is nothing in this world more terrifying or traumatic, than seeing your baby severely unwell.

To say we are extremely grateful for you taking the time to give this positive and heartfelt thanks is an understatement. The staff involved appear to have given you both clinical and emotional assistance at a time when you and your family were in dire need. You clearly feel very strongly that you had the best care from all the teams involved and to be called 'angels' is the highest form of praise.

I would very much like to share your praise and compliments directly with the clinicians who were in attendance with you and your family. If you would be prepared to discuss and give me a few extra details to help me identify them, please contact me on amanda.sweetlove@nias.hscni.net

I pray your son is greatly improved and returns to full health very soon.

Take care

Amanda

Hi emclaughlin91

Apologies for the late response to your lovely comments.

I hope your son has fully recovered at this stage. I fully appreciate the stress and fear as a parent when your baby is sick. It is heart-warming to hear that you felt the full support of all the services you encountered. It is lovely to hear our colleagues in NIAS get recognition for their care.

I will pass on your comments to the staff and assure you we value all feedback from parents such as yourself.

Many thanks

Yvonne
