Due to ongoing symptoms from Covid my GP referred me to the SATA Unit at QEUH for investigations.
I had previously attended and at that time could not help being impressed by the service. So although I was reluctant to attend felt reassured due to my previous experience.
Last night on arrival the unit was full of patients. The nursing staff on duty were clearly 'rushed' off their feet. At one point I found myself muttering "surely not" as it appeared one member of staff was covering the floor alone!
Telephones were ringing, obs needed to be taken, new patients being admitted and records to be kept. Not to mention interruptions from patients seeking updates.
The staff were wonderful, they attended to every patients individual needs and some had more than others! They showed great professionalism and compassion. Their organisational skills were impressive and you could not help but notice the kindness they displayed towards the patients in their care.
Bottled water (bottled in Berkshire.. doesn't Scotland have the best water in the UK!) was handed out and a hot beverage and sandwich was offered. This was not expected and very much appreciated as I had not eaten all day. I also knew it would be another 4- 5 hours before I would know if I would be going home or getting admitted.
A full explanation of the process of our management was given along with an expected length of wait. This makes such a difference and relieves anxiety rather than being left to wonder 'what's happening'.
I would like to say thank you and well done team SATA your doing a fabulous job! And I include the medical staff, the porter at the front door and the radiographer at x-ray in my praise.
We truely have a wonderful NHS!
"Excellent care and service"
