"I am yet to see specialists to manage my Parkinson's"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Orthopaedics

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Staff in this ward are great but I have been in here for nearly 4 weeks and  no one knows how to manage my Parkinson’s. I need to be seen  by certain neurological specialists and am yet to see them.  I am deteriorating because I am not getting the treatment that I need.  This has went on for far too long and something needs to be done about it.

Thank you for the feedback on our Orthopaedic Staff. This is very welcome. I have been speaking to the Deputy Sister on the ward this morning, and I am advised the Parksinsons Specialist Nurse, based in Lurgan hospital was consulted and in conjunction with your Consultant based in the Royal Hospital, your medications were reviewed and amended on their recommendations. I am also advised an appointment has been made with your Consultant on the 29th September. I have asked the Deputy Sister to ensure you are fully informed of this information on this mornings ward round. If you have any questions regarding your treatment please speak to the nurse caring for you or the Ward Sister or Deputy Ward Sister.

Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

Whilst your stay in hospital we made every effort to manage your Parkinson's,

We had received input and recommendations from the neurology team in RVH and a plan was put in place.

Unfortunately your Parkinson Consultant in the royal was off on leave, the earliest appointment we could avail of was the 29th September. We spoke several times with the team to try and get it put forward with no success. We received input from the Parkinson's specialist nurse and an updated plan with recommendations was put in place.

If you have any further questions do not hesitate to ring and speak to me.

Many Thanks

Stephanie Doherty
