"Stomach Investigation"

About: Grantham & District Hospital / Accident and emergency Grantham & District Hospital / General surgery Out of Hours - Stamford

(as a service user),

I started to feel some fairly bad discomfort in my stomach and acid in my throat accompanied by a dull pain in my mid chest area whilst away on holiday, midway through the week. I followed advice given online and took antacid tablets for a week to see if the problem settled down which it didn't, so following medical advice from my GP when we return from holiday, I attended A&e to have the situation assessed. After blood tests, x-rays and an ecg in the evening, I was asked to attend ambulatory care the following day at midday for further investigations and potentially an endoscopy to determine the cause of my discomfort.

Indeed I did attend the following day and was looked after extremely well. After further examinations and detailed looks at my X-rays etc it was determined that I was suffering from excess acid/acid reflux and was offered excellent advice going forward for my diet in the future and also tablets designed to combat the problem in the short term. A letter is being sent to my GP to follow up in 4 weeks where at which stage if the problem hasn't resolved itself I will indeed have an endoscopy.

From the moment I attended A&e to the moment I left ambulatory care I was absolutely delighted with the way in which I was treated.

All the staff without exception were polite, empathetic, professional, courteous and very thorough in what they were doing.

I don't normally single people out but I feel on this occasion it is definitely worth it. Danielle (Nurse Practitioner) in ambulatory care at Grantham epitomizes all that is special about medical professionals. She was fabulous from the get go and really put me at ease; she examined me thoroughly, explained everything to me in great detail and answered any questions that I had. Danielle and others like her are a real credit to the Trust.

Dear Andy manc

Thank you for sharing this with us and so happy to read that every department went above and beyond to make your experience a good one.

I’ve already shared your very kind words with Danielle and it’s really made her day especially that you’d taken time to say these lovely words about her.

Take care

Sharon
