"An essential asset to the hospital"

About: Cancer Services / Living With & Beyond Cancer (Fern Centre)

The Fern Centre is fabulous and essential asset to the hospital. As Barnstaple is a resort town it was impossible to find accommodation during this peak holiday season. For people like us, dealing with end of life care and living out of the area, it was a huge relief to be told about this facility.

Being able to step outside a clinical environment, but being 5 minutes away from the hospital wards was just amazing.

We are so very grateful to have been able to use the Fern Centre. The Fern Centre should be held up as an example of what can be achieved and should be supported and applauded in its work and dedication of its staff.

Dear Blinky

Thank you for taking the trouble to leave such positive feedback at a time which I know has been so difficult for you and your family.

The accommodation has been a godsend to many people who we have had the privilege of helping here at the Fern Centre but I know that we had a conversation about how few members of staff were aware that this facility was available to their patients and families.

We continue to do what we can to promote the centre but feedback from you and others who have stayed with us will help us raise awareness too.

I also appreciated the very valid feedback, which you haven't shared here, regarding small improvements and changes that we could make for our guests,. Please know that we value any suggestions and comments and will look to implement them in the next week or two.

Dear Blinky

Following your stay at the Fern Centre I am writing to let you know that we have made the changes you suggested to make our guests' stay more comfortable and, without giving too much away, the room is less like Blackpool Illuminations at night time.

We thank you so much for your honest and constructive feedback which has gone a long way to ensure future guests have a chance of a decent night's sleep.
