"CAMHS waiting list"

About: Community Mental Health Services / CAMHS (Child & Adolescent MH service) Stirling

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter is currently on the forth valley camhs waiting list. I am well aware that she is not an emergency and feel it is quite appropriate that we have had to wait longer than some.

However, during this time of waiting (currently more than 80 weeks) it is particularly challenging to ensure proper support for my daughter and so I would like to try to gain a better understanding of how long we will have to wait.

Whenever I try to gain this information I am told there is no way to know. And yet it will be reported in the press that people are waiting a certain length of time (apparently much less than we have been waiting). I realise this is not information the administrative staff that answer the phones will necessarily have access to but no-one is willing to pass me on to someone who is actually able to help.

I am frustrated and in the meantime my daughter is not being properly supported. While I am regularly told support is issued based on need not diagnosis I can confirm that in practice this has not been the case for us.

I'm not asking to jump the queue just better understanding of how long we need to wait.

Dear Tryingtobeamum

I am sorry you are currently experiencing such a long wait to access CAMHS for your daughter.

Unfortunately it is very challenging to predict how long it will be before we see someone off the CAMHS wait list due to a number of issues including an increase in unscheduled care, service improvement work and ongoing challenges relating to COVID-19.

We appreciate your frustration and I would be happy for you to contact me Scott Allan, Lead Nurse CAMHS, directly via telephone (01786 454546) or email scott.allan@nhs.scot to discuss your daughter's situation. In the meantime you should be able to discuss your daughter's needs with her named person at school. I look forward to hearing from you and hope we can assist you.

Regards

Scott Allan
