"Care in Cath Lab in Craigavon Hospital"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Cath Lab

(as a service user),

had an Angiogram in the Cath Lab and I wanted to write to you to express my admiration and thanks to the team.

I was met in the car park and escorted to the unit with a smile and a lovely welcome.

I was clerked in by a student nurse Ann. She was kind and considerate and very conscious of speaking softly to preserve my confidentiality in the confines of the paper 'walls'. She was professional and funny and made me feel at ease. She will make a great nurse.

When the initial part of the pathway was completed Staff Nurse Ashley took over and prepped me for theatre. She is a credit to nursing and CAH. She was very considerate, thoroughly professional and knowledgeable and really efficient. She was regularly interrupted by peers and dealt with questions calmly and with certainty.

Whilst in theatre the whole team worked very well together and my assigned nurse was again very competent, reassuring and kind. Everyone in the team of different professions greeted me, put me at ease and I felt looked after.

However my purpose in writing is to widen this from my experience. I witnessed the same care given to younger men (who probably through fear were difficult to deal with) to much older women, to an emergency brought in by NIAS staff. Everyone was treated with kindness, competence and care.

My thanks also to staff Nurses Jenny and Kerry.

Dear Barney59 - thank you so much for taking the time to provide this feedback in relation to your recent experience. We really appreciate how you have you expressed your gratitude and admiration for the team and I will ensure that your lovely comments are shared with all the staff you have mentioned.

As you say when going for an angiogram patients can be anxious and worried and it so reassuring to read how you observed the staff in their interactions with other patients.

I hope you are recovering well

With best wishes

Christine Armstrong

Dear Barney59 - I have shared your feedback with my colleagues who have responsibility for student nurse placements and they would also like to add their appreciation of your comments about student nurse Ann. It is lovely to read about the professionalism, care and compassion shown by our nursing and midwifery students while out on placement. As student nurses and midwives are a valuable part of our workforce it is lovely to receive such positive feedback from our service users.

Many thanks again

Christine
