I had a routine endoscopy but unfortunately i ended up with severe acute pancreatitus and perforated bowel due to this. I ended up in hospital for 3 months with all sorts of complications and abdominal sepsis causing me to nearly losing my life, the hospital had to put 3 drains in me to get rid of the fluid inside my abdomen caused from the acute pancreatitus.
This was a very traumatic experience for me and all my family, especially my wife and young children, there were so many complications during the 3 months and it was very hard for me both physically and mentally. I lost a quarter of my body weight and was bed ridden for lots of this time. The hospital tried lots of things to get me better but a lot of these failed to work which again was hard for me to take and everyone supporting me.
I'm now at home at first with one of the drains still in my abdomen which was hard for me as you could see the fear in my childrens faces from seeing this and all the physical pain that this drain caused. Ive now had drain out after 3 weeks of being home and had the district nurses attending my wounds etc. They were all really friendly and im very grateful for all their efforts as I've been discharged today. I would especially like to thank Helen for the aftercare she has given me as she would always give me advice on what i need to do and was very thorough in her care for me.
